The Lippie Files: Ilia Beauty’s The Butterfly and I

iliathebutterflyandi

I won’t go into details, but it has been a rough week. I debated about whether or not to post at all, but then I decided to go ahead. This blog is for enjoyment—mine and hopefully yours. So we move forward. In keeping with the whole idea that women buy lipstick when they are feeling blue, we are talking lip color today.  Specifically, Ilia’s The Butterfly and I lipgloss ($24, .11 oz). Ilia describes it as “peach perfect.” It’s not perfect, however it has many virtues:

Color

I love this beautiful peach shade. If you like peachy nudes, you will love this. I also think it is well-pigmented for a light colored gloss. I have purchased many a peach or pink gloss that looked great in the tube and then go on nearly clear. Very annoying. The Butterfly and I isn’t like that. It’s pigmented and leaves a light, pretty stain of color as it wears off.

Ingredients

It’s a clean lippie. Here is what Ilia lists as ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Brassica Campestris, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer, Isostearyl Citrate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Fruit Oil, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Oil. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), Red 7 (CI 15850), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Iron Oxide (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491), Red 28 (CI 45410). *Certified Organic Ingredients. Ingrédients Certifiés Biologiques.

Texture

This has a nice texture. It’s on the thinner side, but not so thin that it feels oily. It feels comfortable and moisturizing on the lips.

So what’s not to love? This gloss has a scent and a taste that I just can’t get into. I haven’t had that experience with the Ilia crayons or lipsticks. In looking at the ingredients, I wonder whether it’s the Jasmine Oil. I didn’t notice it among the ingredients of the crayons and lipsticks. If you are a big jasmine fan, this may be perfect for you. I will stick to Ilia’s other lippies for now.  In fact, I took a break from writing this post to order their lipstick in Funnel of Love. You guessed it, a peachy-nude. Unscented. Hopefully they will adjust the formula of the glosses some day because there are a lot of pretty shades in the range too.
