Just Peachy: Ilia Funnel of Love Lipstick

A few weeks ago, I reviewed Ilia’s The Butterfly and I gloss. In that post, I talked about how getting a new lipstick can help a brighten a tough day for many a lady. It’s has done so for me a number of times. That day was one of those days, so in keeping with my love of peach, pink, and nude shades, I ordered Ilia’s Funnel of Love lipstick ($26). I haven’t gotten any of their lip conditioners yet, but I do own another lipstick (Perfect Day) and a couple of Ilia lipstick crayons (Call Me and Karma Chameleon). The lipsticks and crayons are unscented—the scent being pretty much the thing I didn’t like about their gloss. It comes in a sleek, brushed metal tube. Ilia lippies now, along with RMS, dominate my clean lip product stash. Both are great brands.

So let’s talk about Funnel of Love. Ilia describes it as:

Iconic and always a la mode, Funnel of Love channels the hues of a soft nude with peachy undertones. Our inspiration hails from the much sought after look of Brigitte Bardot, a true beauty and forerunner in expressing sensuality.

I’ll buy that. Literally. I purchased it after checking out this awesome page showing all Ilia lip products on actual lips.

Here is what is in it:

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Beeswax (Cera Alba)*, Triisostearyl Citrate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca) Starch *, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Fruit Oil, Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491), Red 7 CI15850, Red 28 CI45410, Yellow 5 CI19140. *Certified Organic Ingredients. Ingrédients Certifiés Biologiques.

While they describe it as a soft nude with peachy undertones, I think it is a soft peach first and foremost. Perhaps even a bit peachier than it appears on the awesome page mentioned above. And I am not complaining. It is a lovely color and I know it will be my spring and summer go-to. I think it’s great compliment to bronzer. The formulation is semi-matte and opaque. But it doesn’t feel heavy or drying. Sometimes, I add a little RMS Lipshine in Bloom over it (you can see the lipstick swatch side by side with the lipstick and RMS blended into it above). That brings it more to the nude side and adds a little shine. So I would sum up by saying that I am really happy with this purchase, but that’s kind of boring. I’ll sum up with this quote from Diane Keaton: “Just have fun. Smile. And keep putting on lipstick.”
