One Love Organics Brand New Day and MV Organics Gentle Cream Cleanser

A new power couple! One Love Organics Brand New Day and MV Organics Gentle Cream Cleanser are two new (to me) products that I love, love, love  to use together. Since this is my first time writing about them, I’ll address them individually first, then talk about how I use them together.

The Scrub: One Love Organics Brand New Day

You’re thinking: Didn’t she say she hates scrubby exfoliants?  Yep. I said that. And having said it, I really love One Love Organics Brand New Day Microderma Scrub + Mask ($37, 1.7 oz). It shouldn’t be too surprising as I have enjoyed everything I’ve tried from this brand, including their Vitamin B cleansing oil (HG status), Vitamin D spray toner, Morning Glory oil (now a serum) and Vitamin C body oil. I may need to do a little brand spotlight on them soon! But getting back to the Brand New Day scrub, it combines “organic sweet pea flour, pineapple enzymes and mineral rich kaolin clay to remove impurities, clarify, and smooth skin for a luminous, baby-soft complexion.” Yes, yes it does. This powder is super fine in texture and gentle on the skin. You mix it with water to make a paste for scrubbing or use it as a mask by mixing it with yogurt for a clarifying mask or honey for a hydrating mask. The fine texture has enough going on the physically exfoliate, but you can also feel the enzymes and clays at work. It is powerful and, I think, very versatile because you can figure out what your skin prefers/can take and go from there. I use this twice a week and it is a definite “will repurchase” item for me. I also love the jar packaging which has a dual opening so you can sprinkle or pour it out. And, by the way, kudos on getting Ecocert-fied, One Love Organics!

The Cleanser: MV Organics Gentle Cream Cleanse

You know I put that Detox Market giftcard that I got for my b-day to good use, dontcha? I selected MV Organics Gentle Cream Cleanser ($58 for 2.3 oz; $91 for 4 oz) and their moisturizer and an Odacite spray toners (we’ll cover those last two in detail another time). This cleanser is a cult fave among models and celebs and I can see why. It is green and an extraordinarily gentle, effective product. Your face feels cleansed, lightly exfoliated, and moisturized after using. But man, is it a splurge. This is a pleasure to use as a morning cleanse or second cleanse in the evening. I wouldn’t use this for taking makeup off. You want to experience it! The texture is thick and somewhat dry. I find it works best to apply it with wet fingertips so it’s easier to spread around  This does need to be removed with a wet washcloth, which also provides the gentle exfoliation. They recommend putting a warm to hot wet cloth on your face for a few seconds, then removing. Sometimes I do this. Sometimes I use a cool cloth, because: summer. Both work.

Scrub + Cleanser = Win/Win

My absolute favorite way to use these products is in combination. I use it in the morning before a shower. I’ll add a 1-2 pumps of cleanser to my palm then sprinkle some of the scrub into it. I blend them together then add a drop or two of water. I spread it on to my face, then wet my hands to really getting it going. I put very little pressure on my cheeks as they tend to get red. I am more vigorous on the t-zone though! I usually drag the mixture down over my neck and upper chest too. Then I leave it there while I get the shower going and hop in and wash up. I leave the mask in place to then end.  That’s when I turn down the hot water to rinse my face and hair (in addition to being more gentle for your face, cool water seals the cuticle leaving hair shinier). So why do I like mixing them together so much? Lots of reasons: 1) The scrub is a bit easier to mix when it has the cream cleanser to stick to. I find I lose less product from it dripping off my hand like it does when I mix it with water. I can’t seem to get the water technique down! 2) It’s also easier to spread around and work in because it has texture.  Also, the texture is even softer–the cream is like a buffer. 3) It enables me to efficiently use it as a scrub and an in-shower mask in one shot. I get the exfoliation/refining and moisture/soothing from two products that excel at each.  4) When used together, the cream cleanser rinses off clean—no need for a washcloth. See? A total win/win!

  1. I will definitely try this combination with some of the products I have laying around. The water technique as you say, doesn’t work for me either. Hopefully I can get some use of some quality products now. Thanks for the tip!

  2. I love the MV cleanser. I just wondered what your thoughts were on the OLO mist and cleansing oil since the change in formula? I know the reasons, great, but have you noticed any positive or negative changes in their performance?

    • As far as I can tell the formula/performance seems is the same for the cleansing oil. The packaging is new. I think the oil is wonderful. In terms of the morning glory oil now being a gel, you still get the brightening and firming effect but not the moisture. It’s better with make up as a gel. However I loved the oil to use even at night or mix a drop in my sunscreen when I am dry. I am rationing my last bottle!
